Introducing Brian Boston, PT, DPT, CSCS – Personalized Physical Therapy and Training Centered Around You

Dr. Brian Boston believes that physical therapy should provide more than just rehabilitation; it should help you move better, feel stronger, and return to the activities you love. As a licensed physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist, Dr. Boston combines clinical skills with real-world results.

Why Did You Choose to Become a Physical Therapist?

I choose to become a physical therapist because I am passionate about helping people improve their health and function; I want patients to be able to live life more fully, and I have seen how physical therapy can help people heal and achieve better health. Physical therapy can help transform lives by restoring independence and confidence.

What Sets Bull Dawg Apart From Other Clinics?

At Bull Dawg, we offer personalized and dedicated one-on-one care with a physical therapist for nearly full one-hour appointments. We don’t send patients off to work with an assistant or a tech during their session. We focus on one patient at a time to provide them the best therapy and outcomes, as well as crafting a care plan tailored to their specific goals and abilities.

How Do You Build Trust With Patients Walking Into Bull Dawg for the First Time?

I build trust with new patients, including those who have never had physical therapy before, by taking the time to learn about their specific health issues, needs, and goals. I want them to know that I am there as a partner in their healing journey, and their input and participation in therapy are essential for the best outcomes.

What Should a New Patient Expect to Talk About in Their First Session With You?

I ask new patients what brings them to physical therapy and to provide me with background on their condition, symptoms, and health history. I ask them how their condition affects their ability to function and go about their lives. I ask them to share their goals for therapy and what activities they want to be able to return to.

What is Your Specialty at Bull Dawg?

I specialize in orthopedic physical therapy and enjoy working with individuals of all ages with various conditions to help them return to what they enjoy doing. I have additional training in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (also known as the McKenzie Method), an assessment process for identifying and treating musculoskeletal problems, including back, neck, and extremity pain. Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) can be used to identify mechanical problems and design a plan to improve a patient’s function and decrease their pain. MDT emphasizes educating and empowering patients in managing their health.  In addition, as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, I incorporate principles from strength training in designing home exercise programs for patients.

What Motivates You During One-on-one Patient Care?

I am motivated by seeing patients make meaningful progress in getting better, improving their function, and achieving their therapy goals. Whether it’s hearing a patient report their back pain is significantly less since they started therapy, or a patient can return to walking long distances, or a patient’s balance has improved, seeing these incremental improvements in patients’ health and function is very motivating!

“I am motivated seeing patients make meaningful progress in getting better, improving their function, and achieving their therapy goals.”

What Happens During Your First Physical Therapy Visit?

A patient’s first visit for physical therapy will be in the form of an evaluation. I ask them about their symptoms and background on their condition and health history. I ask them about their function: What is it they are having difficulty doing? I will ask them to share their goals for therapy: What activities do they want to be able to return to? I will then conduct some tests, such as observing their posture and gait, measuring their range of motion, and assessing their strength, to determine what areas need addressing in therapy. I educate patients on what to expect in therapy, begin their treatment plan, and typically provide them with home exercises to help manage their symptoms.

What is a Common Myth About Physical Therapy?

One common myth about physical therapy is that it is only for patients recovering from injuries or surgeries. It is much more than this. Physical therapy helps patients improve function, reduce chronic pain, increase strength and endurance, sharpen balance, and enhance mobility. Physical therapy can also help you prevent future injuries and stay active well into your later years.
