6 Myths About Falling

#1: Falling happens to other people, not me.

Falling can happen to anyone, no matter their age or physical condition.

#2: Falling is normal and part of aging.

Falling is not a normal part of aging!

#3: If I limit my activity, I won’t fall.

By doing this, you avoid the opportunity to improve yourself, you

deteriorate faster, and you become more likely to fall.

#4: If I stay home, I can avoid falling.

People stick to places where they feel safe and that are familiar, but

there are many hazards within our homes: rugs, pets, electrical cords,

slippery floors and stairs are common causes of falls.

#5: Muscle strength, balance and flexibility can not be regained.

You can always adapt and improve at any age.

#6: Taking medication doesn’t increase my risk of falling.

Many medications can impact balance and increase the risk of falling.

Some cause short term impairments, others more long term.

Pilates Reformer training is a great way to keep you on your feet! It

makes you stronger and creates better balance in your body, which in

turn improves your overall stability and decreases your fall risk. You

learn to become more mindful in your movements and aware of where

your body is in space. It’s appropriate for all ages and fitness levels.
